School Leaders Conference

We are excited to bring together school leaders, educators, and education partners for a day of learning, collaboration, and professional growth. This year’s conference offers a variety of opportunities to gain new knowledge, share ideas, and explore practical strategies that support strong leadership and student success. The day will begin with check-in and breakfast, followed by a welcome and introductions from Mariah Wanic, Director of Charter Schools, and a message from our President, Duane Bedell. We are honored to welcome Allyson Apsey as our keynote speaker, who will present Bringing Out the Best: Leadership That Helps People Thrive. Through research, stories, and real-world leadership experience, participants will explore how trust, clarity, meaningful relationships, and positive energy can help create school environments where people thrive. Attendees will also have the opportunity to experience a special Cultural Presentation by John W. Hutchinson, a Bay Mills Indian Community member, singer, and drummer, who generously shares the music, traditions, and culture of the Anishinaabe people. Throughout the morning, participants will hear from experienced professionals on important topics affecting charter schools and education, including the Michigan Literacy Law with Dr. Sara Holding, the #LEAD School Leaders Program, the Professional Innovators in Education Program, and BMCSO Annual Reports. The afternoon will feature an interactive workshop with Allyson Apsey, Growing Together: Creating a Culture of Coaching and Collective Efficacy. Leaders will explore practical strategies for strengthening coaching, supporting collaborative teams, and developing instructional leadership throughout their schools.
